Every night of the Stanley Cup playoffs, TSN hockey analyst and former NHL goaltender Jamie McLennan breaks down each goalies performance. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings - (3) He gave them a chance to win early on with big saves on Saad, Hossa, and Kane. It was a very aggressive game for him, almost more than usual. He had no chance on the late goal to Sharp on a deflection. You can see Chicagos trying to get him moving and be overaggressive in the net; Im sure Bill Ranford (goalie coach) will point that out to him to be aware of. Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks – (2) Los Angeles targeted his blocker side and definitely tried to create traffic in front of him. Voynov and Doughty had bombs from the point, Toffolis goal was a partial break that slid underneath his left pad – he late to seal the ice on it – and he had no chance on the Carter goal, a quick bang-bang play. Even though it wasnt his best game, I was impressed that his positioning did not waver, a sign of confidence in his style. Vapormax Chinese New Year .com) - Its fair to call Mike McCarthy one of the best coaches in the NFL but its also more than objective to point out that the veteran mentor bookended the Green Bay Packers season with two, truly awful game plans in Seattle. Murray produced an imperious display to defeat Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-4 and win the season-ending extravaganza at Londons O2 Arena on Sunday. The 29-year-olds first Tour Finals title came with the hugely significant bonus of ensuring that he remained above Djokovic in the year-end rankings and can finally claim he is the best player on the planet. Murray wins World Tour Finals Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic to win the ATP World Tour Finals for the first time So what do the Sky Sports Tennis team make of Murrays marvellous achievement? We asked each of the experts to sum up Sundays historic final and pick out one memorable moment from whats been a blockbuster week of action in the capital.Marcus BucklandThe final verdictUnbelievable, unpredictable, extraordinary. Im going to run out of adjectives and superlatives, but not what many people expected. Incredible nonetheless. Murray milestones Andy Murrays greatest moments revisited after winning ATP World Tour Finals Marcus memorable momentIf I had to pick one moment - aside from getting into the ice bath with Annabel - its actually that extraordinary point that Andy played at 3-1 in the second set tie-break against Milos Raonic. That unbelievable little dink between his legs that kept him going ultimately to an amazing victory there, and to the glory that followed just 24 hours later. Marcus Buckland and Annabel Croft take a refreshing ice bath! Barry CowanThe final verdictIts ended in a remarkable year. I think its a fantastic advert for the sport that weve had two great champions battle it out. Its always great to be part of history and Andys run was fitting it ended like that for him. An extraordinary effort Andy Murray outclassed and outfought rival Novak Djokovic, says Barry Cowan Barrys memorable momentI think the end. The last game reminded me so much of the Wimbledon final. When clearly he was still nervous, he was still able to hold his nerve, and thats the sign of a champion. Murray pulled off this wonderful half volley during the second set tie-break against Raonic Annabel CroftThe final verdictIt feels as if weve witnessed a really, really special occasion. I dont think anybody could believe that Andy Murray could dig into some reserves that we didnt think would be there after the tennis that hes had to come through in the course of the week. He said himself that when he woke up he felt pretty terrible and he didnt know how he was going to be able to play the way he did. Andy was rock solid, he served well, and I just think it topped off what has been a special year. Everyone feels that he is the true world No 1. Annabels memorable momentThat tie-break against Milos Raonic in the third set. I was courtside and it was unbelievable tension and nerves, passion, drama. It was an extraordinary match that will live long in the memory. Im never going to forget that match and I cannot believe he was able to bounce back the next day, after three hours and 38 minutes, and be able to beat the former dominant world No 1. But he really, really deserves it. Hes in such a great place and has become the most overwhelmingly popular champion. Highlights of the epic semi-final match between Murray and Raonic Peter FlemingThe final verdictTwo weeks ago, when Murray won Paris and we thought it could possibly come down to the two best players playing in the final here for the world No 1, it was a great prospect and the final was even more exciting than we could have hoped for. What Murray showed there was a great illustration of the human spirit. And he showed his fighting spirit, making a mockery of the physical travails hes had this week. He was fantastic. Highlights of the final between Murray and Djokovic at Londons O2 Flemings memorable momentIt was the entire final, from start to finish. Murray was resolute, he was aggressive, he just kept going putting fatigue out of his mind, and at the very end, until the very last point, you had no idea - or certainly I wasnt confident - he was actually going to win, but he kept the pressure on to finish the job. Heres Murrays superb angled cross-court backhand winner which was a contender for shot of the tournament Barry MillnsThe final verdictThis was the dream final, but did we dream that this would ever happen? A first British finalist in these championships and to play in the way he did as the world No 1, like the world No 1, he quite rightly goes into 2017 as the world No 1. It was brilliant. Murray: I still need to improve Andy Murray needs to improve to fend off Novak Djokovic in 2017 Millns memorable momentThe first moment I thought that he was fine was against Stan Wawrinka, when he came out and attacked him when he was being attacked, and for me that was the aggression we needed from Murray.dddddddddddd From that moment, I thought he was on his way. You cannot underline how great an achievement this is. He should be so proud of what hes done. Highlights of Murrays emphatic win over US Open champion Wawrinka Mark PetcheyThe final verdictI was super impressed with the way Andy was able to handle himself out there. There was no room for any kind of errors and he almost had to do it in two sets, just because of what happened the day before. He changed his game, way more aggressive, served huge. It validates all the hard work Andy does in Miami, which was probably the main reason, and his incredible work ethic, why he won. Mark Petchey says now Andy Murray has become world No 1, he is Britains greatest ever sports athlete Petchs memorable momentThe tie-breaker against Milos in the third. It was just ridiculous drama given what was on the line knowing that if he lost the match he was going to lose his chance to be year-end No 1. Just that whole 25 minutes or whatever it was. From serving for it from 5-4 to having match point twice and then being match point down - that period there was just like a tennis story between two great players, everything mattered. Thats why I watch the sport; thats why I love it. Murray converted on his fourth match point against Raonic during a thrilling tie-break to finally come through Greg RusedskiThe final verdictSuperhuman performance from Andy Murray. I mean, incredible. Most of the pundits thought Djokovic was going to win and I thought Djokovic was going to win because I didnt think Murray was going to recover. He stayed calm, he was aggressive, he did everything right and the belief is immense. For me, personally, this is his greatest performance. Might not have been the greatest tennis, but to end the season No 1 is phenomenal. Probably our greatest sportsman in my lifetime here in Britain. VOTE: Greatest British sportsperson VOTE: Who is Britains greatest sportsperson currently competing Gregs memorable momentId say that last game. Djokovic has to save two match points, gets to deuce, and then Ivan Lendl puts his finger to his mouth and says keep it quiet there Andy. He keeps it quiet, finishes it off and ends the season world No 1. The mental strength, the physical work - I mean, you just dont realise what hes accomplished: 24 matches in a row, five tournaments and beating the second best player on the planet. Weve never seen this in tennis before, so history is made and history is made by Murray. Heres the moment Murray won the season-ending finale for the first time Leif ShirasThe final verdictI thought it was an amazing performance from Murray. Every time, he was able to call on that resource of energy, to call on that adrenaline, to do what he can do best, and that was to put balls in play, to work the points, and Novak just didnt have any answers. Murray just locked it in tight, refused to give any errors and then was aggressive on the forehand, which was the game plan that coach Ivan Lendl wanted to instill in him. Murray spoke to Marcus Buckland, Annabel Croft and Greg Rusedski after beating Djokovic Leifs memorable momentI hate to think there was anything better than match point taken by Murray. The atmosphere in this building was absolutely electric. Ive been to a lot of great moments, at Arthur Ashe Stadium at the US Open, and Wimbledon had some great moments, but this was pretty special. To see Andy and this crowd come together was pretty special. Reaction from both players as Murray was crowned year-end No 1 and World Tour champion Well be back in 2017, but in the meantime you can follow us skysports.com/tennis, or our app for mobile devices and iPad and our Twitter account @skysportstennis.By purchasing a Sky Sports Day Pass for £6.99 or Sky Sports Week Pass for £10.99, you can enjoy access to all seven Sky Sports channels and watch on a TV with a NOW TV Box or on a range of devices. TORONTO -- For the second straight tournament John Isner didnt get to play on centre court. And for the second straight tournament he bowed out in his first match. Isner, the 10th seed at the Rogers Cup, lost to Croatian Ivan Dodig, 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 on the grandstand court Monday night at Rexall Centre. The match was originally scheduled for the afternoon in the stadium, but a lengthy rain delay wreaked havoc on the days schedule. "Obviously it was not easy," said Dodig, who was playing his first singles match in 10 weeks because of a broken rib. "It was long day for us, and of course changing the court its also a little bit like making you to think about it." Isner, who was not made available to speak to reporters, lost his opening match at last weeks Citi Open to Steve Johnson and told reporters in Washington that he didnt think he "deserved" to play on a secondary court. Storms in the Toronto area caused play to be delayed two hours, and Isner and Dodig didnt get the centre-court spotlight. That went to 13th-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who beat fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6(3), 6-1. The nightcap on centre court featured Canadian wild card Peter Polansky beating 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz 7-6(5), 6-4. Polansky, who grew up in nearby Thornhill, Ont., last won a match in Toronto in 2010 when he upset Austrias Jurgen Melzer. He said this felt like a bit of deja vu -- notably because this was by the same score -- but this time the 26-year-old had to bounce back from a challenge on what he thought was match point. "There was a little bit of nerves trying to pull through and hold for the match," Polansky said. "When he hit that forehand wide, I was pretty excited." Polansky will face second-seeded Roger Federer in the second round Tuesday night. He said facing the 17-time Grand Slam champion will probably be one of the highlights of his career. Monday night represented another low light for Isner, who dominated with his big serve but couldnt handle Dodigs throughout the night. Dodig broke the six-foot-ten American in the third set and was able to finish things off from there. "Hes the guy who can beat everybody, and as well a great player for many years," Dodig said of Isner. "You could see that there was not so many breaks. Its tough for both of us, for me to return to him and for him as well. Hes going aggressive and he wasnt missing a lot today." In other night action, American qualifier Michael Russell beat Frances Nicholas Mahut 6-3, 6-3 and Spains Feliciano Lopez beat 14th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(7), 3-6. Earlier in the day, Frances Julien Benneteau had little trouble dusting off former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, 6-1, 6-2. Benneteau and Hewitt endured two rain delays, the second of which lasted two hours. "I tried to keep the same momentum and the same rhythm of the match," Benneteau said. "I just tried to stay focused to be able to play the same way." Benneteau was leading 4-1 in the first set when the first brief rain delay occurred. He was up 4-2 in the second when storms moving through the Toronto area halted his and every other match taking place. "The rain delay, its never easy but its for both players," he said. "I had two break points before, 15-40 and then a deuce. So its never easy." Benneteau also said its never easy facing Hewitt, even though the Aussie is 42nd now and 11 years removed from being atop the world rankings. "Hes a great fighter and to beat him you have to play solid," Benneteau said. "You have to do a good match. Its the kind of player that if your level is not good enough, you dont win." To open the tournament on centre court, 15th-seeded Marin Cilic got pushed to the limit before beating Denis Istomin, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. The Croatian said Istomin was dealing with a shoulder injury that led to some unpredictability. "He had some shots were coming off good, some not, and it was difficult to know what was going to come," Cilic said. "It got a bit complicated." In other early action, Frances Jeremy Chardy beat Argentinas Federico Delbonis, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, French qualifier Benoit Paire defeated Colombian Alejandro Falla, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, and American qualifier Tim Smyczek downed German qualifier Tobias Kamke, 6-3, 6-2. The Rogers Cup Hall of Fame induction ceremony was also postponed because of the weather. Stefan Edberg and former Rogers Cup Master of Ceremonies Don Goodwin will now be inducted Tuesday night. EDMONTON -- Injuries have put a crimp in many of the plans for the top lines of the Edmonton Oilers, but at least one pairing looks to be a lock. Jordan Eberle had a goal and two assists and linemate David Perron scored twice as the Oilers won their fourth consecutive pre-season game, defeating the New York Rangers 5-3 on Tuesday night. "Were playing well together, said Eberle of Perron, who was acquired in the summer in a trade with St. Louis for Magnus Paajarvi. "We play very similar games and I think that helps. He really reads the play. Chemistry is a tough thing to find in this league and when you find it, it is something to keep. Obviously the confidence in each other is there." Eberle himself has looked very solid in the lead-up to the regular season, recording a league-high eight points in four exhibition games. "You cant look too much into pre-season, but it has been a good start," he said. "Were just anxious to get going and do the real thing. Ive worked all summer to get to a point where I felt good about my game and thats what the pre-season is about." Taylor Hall and Ben Eager also scored for the Oilers, who improved to 5-1-1 in exhibition action. Hall will be under the gun playing centre for the first time at the NHL level with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins likely out for a month recovering from shoulder surgery and Sam Gagner reportedly expected to miss up to two months after suffering a broken jaw in a pre-season stick to the face from Vancouvers Zack Kassian. However, Hall said he is being careful not to put too much pressure on himself despite the new position. "Im just trying to have fun with it," he said. "The second you start thinking too much and have a billion thoughts going through your head when you have the puck is when you dont play well. Im just trying to play relaxed and in the moment." Marc Staal, Dan Girardi and J.T. Miller replied for the Rangers (1-3-0) who lost games on back-to-back nights in Alberta. New York struck first eight minutes into the opening period on Tuesday after Oilers defender Jeff Petry hit the side of his own net with a pass and Mats Zuccarello was able to get it behind the net and send it back to Staal at the point. Staals long shot through traffic beat Edmonton starter Jason LaBarbera glove side. Edmonton got that goal back five minutes later just as a power play concluded as Hall was able to tip a Justin Schultz shot past Rangers goalie Martin Biron. The Oilers took a 2-1 lead on a goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the first period as Mark Arcobello sent a long lead pass toward the Rangers net and Perron was able to out-hustle New York defenceman Aaron Johnson to the puck and chip it past Biron for his fourth of the pre-season. Edmonton made it 3-1 on a power play goal just past the one-minute mark of the second period. Petry sent the puck in front of the net and Perron was there to make a perfect deflection into the net for his second goal of the game. The Rangers came right back a minute later, as Miller picked up a rebound in front of the Edmonton net and hooked it past LaBarbera in his first game of the pre-season for New York. New York had a glorious chance to tie it midway through the second frame with a two-man advantage, however it went awry as Eager got the puck just as he was coming out of the box for the first penalty and his shot hit the post before coming back to hit Birons leg and carom into the net for a short-handed goal. The Rangers controlled the bulk of the play in the third, but Edmonton padded its lead as rookie Darnell Nurse send a pass from behind the net and Eberle was able to lift a backhand shot in to make it 5-2. New York finished the scoring with a power play goal on a point shot by Girardi with four minutes remaining. The Rangers continue their western Canadian pre-season trip in Vancouver on Thursday. The Oilers are off until Friday when they face the Dallas Stars in Oklahoma City. Lafferty, 27, set a Goldeyes record last season by appearing in 53 games out of the bullpen, which passed Brian Beunings 51 appearances in 2008. The product of Riverside, Calif. went 5-2 with a 3.49 ERA in 49 innings of work and posted 50 strikeouts. "Were really thrilled to have him back," Forney said. "I was really excited to get him last year and he certainly was as good as we hoped he would be. He really is a durable, reliable type guy that likes to pitch every day. Thats an important ingredient when youre trying to put your bullpen together because our rosters are so small. Having him back in the fold certainly makes us better down there in the bullppen.dddddddddddd" Lafferty tied with Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks pitcher Joe Harris for the most appearances by a pitcher in the American Association last season. Lafferty and teammate Chris Kissock combined to make 103 appearances out of the bullpen, which was the most by any duo in the league. Prior to joining the Goldeyes for the 2013 season, Lafferty played four seasons in the Kansas City Royals system after being drafted by the Royals in the 18th round of the 2009 MLB amateur draft. He played with Double-A Northwest Arkansas of the Texas League in 2011 and 2012. He was a Rule 5 pick of the Philadelphia Phillies following the 2012 season, but was released during spring training. The Goldeyes now have four players signed for the 2014 season, including three pitchers and one position player. ' ' '

Point was far from a lock to make the team and had been the 13th forward before Fabbri got hurt early in the first period Friday night against Denmark. Coach Benoit Groulx likes having a shooter with McDavid and Lazar, so Point will get that chance.Back to Fucale: Zach Fucale starts in goal after completing an easy 14-save shutout of Denmark. Fucale and Eric Comrie have been rotated in goal this tournament, so its not a certainty that the semifinal starter will also be in net if Canada gets to the gold-medal game. Fucale might want to keep from allowing a bad goal, just in case, because Comries ready to step back in.Forget aboout Boxing Day: Canada hammered Slovakia 8-0 and put up 34 shots to 12 on the tournaments opening day.dddddddddddd Players are quick to say they dont think itll be a blowout again. But it still might be hard not to think back to that game and get complacent.Glove of Godla: Canada chased Slovak goaltender Denis Godla with five goals on 23 shots in the Boxing Day blowout, but he has allowed just six on 136 since. Forward Martin Reway said Godla has to be perfect against Canada in the semifinals, and the goaltender knows that. Sounds about right.Slovakias strategy: Learning from last time and gaining more confidence following wins over Finland and the Czech Republic, Slovakia will try to avoid falling behind early. A quick Canadian goal would get the Air Canada Centre crowd going, so the Slovaks just want to survive the first few shifts to give themselves a chance.---Follow @SWhyno on Twitter ' ' '

SAN DIEGO -- On Saturday afternoon, Cory Spangenberg couldnt wait to share the news that he was joining the San Diego Padres in a September promotion. So he did what 23-year-olds do. He tweeted, "cant believe my childhood dream has come true! want to thank my family friends and all the support from the .570!" Problem is, the Padres like to make such announcements. "We had a discussion about that yesterday," old-school manager Bud Black said. Its all good now. Spangenberg had a two-run single for his first big league hit and made two nice plays at third base to help Tyson Ross and the Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Monday. "It was a good day in the big leagues. I think his parents were here, some relatives were here and maybe a few people from the 570 were here," Black said, referring to the area code for Spangenbergs hometown of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Spangenberg, the teams first-round pick in the 2011 draft, had his contract selected from Double-A San Antonio and started at third base. He came up with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning and singled to right off reliever Eury De La Rosa for a 3-0 lead. "He got me down 0-2 but I was just looking for a pitch up in the zone a little bit that I could put the bat on the ball and he just happened to leave a slider a little bit up and I got enough of it to find a hole," he said. Spangenberg is the third player in Padres history to have multiple RBIs in his big league debut. His parents, two brothers and sister were at the game. "Its just nice to share this moment with them because theyve put in as much time and effort with this as I did," Spangenberg said. So alls well in the 570? "Theres unbelievable support there and they have my back all the way. Im just thankful for them," he said. Ross (13-12) pitched six strong innings, allowing one run and six hits while striking out eight and walking two. It was his 14th straight start of going six or more innings and allowing six or fewer hits. He is 7-6 with a 1.93 ERA in that stretch. A fifth-inning comebacker by Didi Gregorius hit off Ross glove but he threw out the runner. He tweaked his left knee on the play, which he and the training staff didnt realize until later. After Ross allowed a leadoff single by David Peralta in the sixth, manager Bud Black and a trainer came out to check on the tall right-hander. Black left Ross in the game. He allowed two more singles, including an RBI hit by Miguel Montero, before striking out the side. "I felt at that point he was our best pitcher," Black said. Ross said the mound visit "gave me a chance to refocus and get back to execution." Striking out the side came from "just grinding it out, really," he said. "I just minimized. Thats kind of the focus, First and third, no outs, just trying to minimize. Rene (Rivera) called some good pitches and worked his butt off back there. It was a good inning." Kevin Quackenbush struck out the side in the ninth for his second save in three chances. Arizonas Trevor Cahill (3-10) went only four-plus innings, allowing three runs and five hits while walking six and striking out five. "He walked six guys. Thats way too many in four innings," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He wiggled out of it the best he could." PADRES MOVES The Padres also promoted LHP Robbie Erlin and RHP Leonel Campos from Triple-A El Paso. Erlin made his big league debut with San Diego in 2013. Campos will make his big league debut the first time he pitches. WALK THIS WAY Rivera drew four walks for the Padres, including two intentional. He is the 30th player in franchise history to do so and the first since Chase Headley on July 30, 2012. Rivera was the ninth player and first catcher in team history to not register an at-bat despite making four or more plate appearances in a game. TRAINERS ROOM Arizona: The Diamondbacks reinstated OF Cody Ross (strained left calf) from the 15-day disabled list and RHP Daniel Hudson (reconstructive elbow surgery) from the 60-day DL. Hudson likely will work in relief. He hasnt pitched for Arizona since June 26, 2012, when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow against the Braves. San Diego: The Padres transferred 1B Yonder Alonso (right wrist surgery) and LF Carlos Quentin (bone bruise, left knee) to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Spangenberg and Campos. UP NEXT Arizona: Wade Miley (7-10, 4.30 ERA) has no record and a 3.86 ERA in two starts vs. San Diego this year. He is 1-6 with a 4.96 ERA in 11 career starts against the Padres. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kemba Walker knew he was going to take the final shot, no matter what. So did his teammates.Thats just the way the Hornets fourth-year point guard likes it.As soon as we get in those situations, theyre like, Kemba, win the game, Walker said. When you have a bunch of guys that have that much confidence in you, of course you want to take that shot.Walker scored 31 points, including an awkward-looking 11-foot jumper from near the right baseline that somehow found its way in off the glass with 1.4 seconds left to lift Charlotte to a 98-94 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. It was Walkers third game-winner of the season as the Hornets (13-24) overcame a 13-point third-quarter deficit to win their third straight. With the game tied, Walker drove deep to the right side of the lane close to the baseline, ducked his body and appeared to struggle getting the shot off as Jrue Holiday hit his arm. Walker muscled the ball up as the whistle blew, and it banked in. He added the free throw for the 3-point play. The Pelicans had one last chance to tie, but Marvin Williams stole the inbounds pass at half court and was fouled. He sank one of two shots to seal the victory.I dont know how that ball went it, Walker said with a laugh. It was so awkward because the angle was super awkward. I just got it up and was fortunate it went in. Its always a great feeling to make shots like that.Said Holiday: He drove the lane and I defended as best I could. He just made the shot. The Hornets have counted on Walker to take on an additional scoring load with Al Jefferson and Lance Stephenson out with injuries. Hes stepped up to the challenge with three straight 30-point games.Without many scoring options on the court, Walker took nearly every shot down the stretch and finished with 17 points in the second half. He missed two layups in the final two minutes, but wouldnt be deterred from taking the final shot.He finished 12 of 24 from the field and had four assists and four rebounds. The difference now is that hes shooting the ball better, Hornets coach Steve Clifford said. Hes really played at a very high level all year. Earlier in the year, he didnt shot the ball as well but he spent so much time working on it in the summer that I was confidence he would get it going.Gerald Henderson had 16 points for Charlotte and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 13 points and 12 rebounds.Anthony Davis had 32 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Pelicans, who fell below .500 for the first time since Dec. 14. Holiday had 16 points and nine assists. We battled, Davis said. Kemba was just Kemba. He hit some big shots down the stretch and won the game for them. The Pelicans built a double-digit lead in the third quarter before Henderson went on a tear, scoring eight of Charlottes next 10 points to pull the Hornets within three. We fell apart, Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. We didnt share the ball, which is what we have been talking about, especially down the stretch of games. The Hornets took the lead with nine minutes left on a pair of free throws by Roberts and would extend their lead to 90-82 when Walker hit two free throws with 4:12 left. But the advantage would quickly evaporate as New Orleans went on a 10-0 run behind Davis.___TIP-INSPelicans: Davis recorded his sixth double-double in the past seven games. ... The Pelicans fell to 6-13 on the road this season.Hornets: Kidd-Gilchrist has recorded a double-double in three of his last four games for the Hornets.WALKER JOINS CLUBWalker became the ninth player in Charlotte history to score 30 points in three straight games. Crippled by a series of injuries to key players and struggling at home this season, Dortmund was far from convincing in a 2-1 defeat to Zenit on Wednesday. However, the 4-2 victory in the first leg in St. Petersburg was enough for Juergen Klopps side to win 5-4 on aggregate and seal its place in Fridays draw. Hulk scored in the 16th for Zenit and captain Sebastian Kehl equalized for Dortmund in the 38th. Substitute Jose Rondon scored with a diving header in the 73rd to seal Zenits win on the night, though it was an empty victory. Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller turned away a late shot by Igor Smolnikov to prevent an even bigger defeat. In the nights other match, Manchester United advanced with a 3-0 win over Olympiakos, courtesy of a hat trick by Robin van Persie and a 3-2 victory on aggregate. "We surely didnt play a great game but we are in the quarterfinals," Kehl said. "That goal by Kehl allowed us to calm down," said Klopp, who acknowledged the quality of the Russian side. "They can really play and they gave us some problems." Dortmund will be without striker Robert Lewandowski for the first leg of the quarterfinals after he picked up his third yellow card of the competition for handling the ball. "I thought I had been pushed from behind and thats why handled the ball," Lewandowski said. &quuot; The main thing is that we went through.dddddddddddd." "The yellow card was laughable," Klopp said. The Brazil striker shook off Kehl and cut inside past two defenders to blast a left-foot shot that swerved away from goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller on its way into the net. Zenit threatened a couple more times before Kehl got the equalizer. Marcel Schmelzer broke down the left flank and swung in a high cross. Kehl raced into the area and rose above the defence to send in a header that keeper Vyacheslav Malafeev got both hands to -- but could only push into the net. It was the captains first Champions League goal in 30 matches. "They have some good players up front but we didnt allow them too many chances," Kehl said. Early in the second half, Hulk unleashed a fierce free kick from about 30 metres (yards) that sailed high. Rondon scored Zenits second following a cross by Domenico Criscito from just outside the penalty area on the left -- evading defender Mats Hummels to head home from close range. Zenit, coached by Sergei Semak on an interim basis until Andre Villas-Boas takes over when the team returns home, kept up the pressure and Igor Smolnikov sent a low shot that Weidenfeller barely managed to turn away in the 88th. The last time Dortmund made it to the last eight in two straight seasons was 16 years ago. It won the title in 1997 and then reached the semifinals. ' ' '

The Winnipeg Goldeyes got a jolt of momentum and some important separation on Thursday afternoon. Playing in front of a crowd of 5,788 at Shaw Park, the Fish beat the St. Paul Saints 7-2 to win the final game of a five-game series and pull 4 1/2 games ahead of the Saints in the race for first in the American Associations North Division. Casey Haerther was the hitting hero as the leading hitter in the league raised his average to .396 with three hits in five trips and also drove in a pair of runs as the Goldeyes improved to 37-22 on the season. Luis Alen had a hit in three trips, scored a run and drove in a run; Reggie Abercrombie went three-for-four with two runs scored; and Donnie Webb had two hits, including a solo homer as the Goldeyes put an end to a three-game losing streak. However, while the bats came alive, the real hero might have been starter Ethan Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth battled for 6 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on eight scattered hits as the Saints had at least one base runner in every inning and had runners in scoring position in seven of the nine innings. "That was a big win for us because it gives us some momentum heading out onto the road," said Haerther, whose two-run double in the eighth put the game out of reach. "This is a team that wont go very long without scoring runs and we knew wed start getting good at bats again. This win was good for us, good for everybody in the clubhouse, because even though it was a tough homestand, we won the last game and we all feel good about ourselves going into Kansas City." It was a wild one in many ways for the Goldeyes. In the first inning, third baseman Jake Blackwood drilled a double and pulled up lame at second base. He had to be taken out of the game so it meant moving Josh Mazzola to third, Luis Alen to first and Jordan Guida to catcher. But then, in the next inning, newcomer Sam Kimmel pulled up lame in the outfield and the moves were on again. With the Goldeyes down to nothing on the bench but pitchers, reliever Kaohi Downing moved to rightfield and Donnie Webb moved to leftfield. But when the game got tight, manager Rick Forney moved Guida to first base and Alen back behind the plate. For the ninth inning, Forney took Guida out of the game and put Haerther, the DH at first. Its more managing than anyone should have to do in one afternoon. "Ive often pitched to two different catchers in a game," said Hollingsworth. "But I think its the first time Ive pitched to one, then to another and then to the first guy again. But it was easy. Jordan and Luis both call great games so it was no problem for me at all." It took a while for the Goldeyes to get on the board, but when they did, they did it with gusto. In the fifth, trailing 1-0, Abercrombie led off with a double and eventually came home on a single by Alen. Guida, who was safe on an error, scored on a ground out by Haerther and the Fish had a 2-1 lead. Webb homered in the sixth to make it 3-1 and then the Goldeyes scored again when Brock Bond came home on an error by St. Paul shortstop Joey Becker. St. Paul cut the Goldeyes lead to 4-2 in the top of the eighth, but ion the bottom of the inning, Alen drove in a run with a single and Haerther drove in two with a double and the Goldeyes had bounced back from losing a doubleheader on Wednesday night. Hollingsworth (4-0, 3.96 ERA) got the win while St. Paul starter Robert Coe (4-5, 6.36 ERA) took the loss. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Kemba Walker said the most notable transformation between this years Charlotte Bobcats and teams of the past is now they expect to win games. "Thats what it is," Walker said. "We go into games knowing that we have a chance. We have the players and we have the character. Thats the difference." The Bobcats went 28-120 in their previous two seasons, but a renewed sense of confidence and determination is paying off. Well, that and a having a big man who can dominate in the low post. Centre Al Jefferson had a season-high 26 points, Walker nearly had a triple double and the Bobcats overcame an 18-point deficit to escape with a 111-110 overtime over the Milwaukee Bucks for their fourth victory in the past five games Monday night. Walker had 25 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, and Anthony Tolliver had 12 points on four 3-pointers as the Bobcats avenged a hard-to-swallow loss at home Saturday night against the Utah Jazz. Rookie Cody Zeller added a career-high 12 points for the Bobcats (14-15) in what coach Steve Clifford called his best NBA game. Jefferson told Walker this summer that he was signing as a free agent with the Bobcats because he expected to win games. He didnt want to play for a cellar dweller. "I told him Im not going to get used to losing," Jefferson said. "We want to try to turn things around. So far, so good." Its the third time in the last four games the Bobcats have come back from at least 16 points down to win. "We dont like getting down that early, but it happens," Walker said. "We are showing our resiliency. We are showing that when we get down, were not out. Were going to keep fighting. The game is never over, especially in this league." Brandon Knight had 26 points and 14 assists to lead the Bucks (6-22), who have lost five of their last six games. The Bucks had a chance to tie in overtime off an inbounds play with 1.6 seconds left, but officials ruled Khris Middletons foot was on the line and his jumper counted as two points instead of three. "I didnt know where I was," said Middleton, who had 19 points. "It was a good play and a good shot, but obviously my foot was on the line. Anybody wants that situation. I just caught it and shot it." It was Charlottes third victory this season against Milwaukee, although this one was much closer than the previous two. The Bobcats beat the Bucks twice in November by 24 and 16 points. But it was Milwaukee that jumped out to a 35-17 lead in the second quarter by dominating the boards. Charlottes starters were 6 of 20 from the field at one point before Jefferson started to get hot toward the end of the second quarter and helped the Bobcats trim the lead to 54-52 at the break. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied, but Tolliver knocked down his fourth 3-pointer with 4:02 left on the clock to give Charlotte a 96-94 lead. The Bucks would cut the lead to one with 35 seconds left before Walker hit a pull-up jumper from 13 feet with 16 seconds left. After a timeout, Middleton missed a 3-pointer, but O.J. Mayo grabbed the loose rebound and knocked down a 25-footer to send the game into overtime. In the extra period, the Bobcats took a one-point lead late on a free throw by Jefferson. The Bucks had a chance to take the lead but Middleton missed a jumper and Walker grabbed his ninth rebound of the game. Walker knocked down two free throws with 1.6 seconds left to push the lead to 111-108. Milwaukees last ditch effort fell short when Middletons jumper at the buzzer from the right corner went in, but was ruled a two-pointer. Replays showed his foot was on the line. "We just have to get over the hump," Bucks coach Larry Drew said. "Were knocking at the door. We just have to get over the hump. Were putting ourselves in position. Like I told the guys, we can have good stretches and then we have breakdowns. Bad shots are just as good as a turnover. Particularly on the road. You have to be disciplined enough to get good shots." The Bobcats had a season-high 10 3-pointers including a 4-for-4 effort by Tolliver, who took over as the starter after Jeffery Taylor tore his Achilles tendon last week. NOTES: The Bobcats announced that Taylor had surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon and is expected to miss six to nine months. ... Bradley flew home to Zumbrota, Minn., on Monday to be with his family, turning interim coaching duties over to secondary coach DeWayne Walker. Bradleys father, Roy James Bradley, died Sunday night following a lengthy illness. He was 85. The youngest of the six kids, Bradley is expected to rejoin the team in London, possibly as early as Wednesday. "Many of guys know coach Bradley and have been around him enough to know that hes a very tough-minded man, has a lot of intestinal fortitude and he really struggled with this decision: whether to lead this team or to lead his family," general manager Dave Caldwell said. "And we made it for him this morning to go home and be with his family and his mom, Gloria, to take care of what he needed there. "We have enough confidence in our coaching staff here and our team here that were going to take care of our business, and coach Bradley will rejoin the team as soon as he can. We fully support him and his family with that." The Jaguars (0-7) are flying to London later Monday and spending the week there before playing defending NFC champion San Francisco. Walker has 25 years of coaching experience, including the last four as head coach at New Mexico State. "He could have closed his eyes and just picked any coacch," Walker said.dddddddddddd "I think all the coaches are capable of doing what he asked me to do. I just want to make sure I dont embarrass him." Jacksonville has lost every game this season by double digits, getting outscored 222-76. San Diego, dealing with a short week and a cross-country flight, dominated every aspect of Sundays 24-6 win over the Jaguars. Bradley was Seattles defensive co-ordinator the previous four years. Caldwell and owner Shad Khan picked Bradley to lead the franchises latest rebuilding project, which clearly wont be an easy fix. Walker declined to address injuries, the teams quarterback situation or any other team issues. Its unclear whether Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) or Chad Henne will start Sunday against the 49ers. "Im going to sit in the chair for maybe a day and a half, so for me to have this big plan to try to rejuvenate our football team, I dont think thats my place," Walker said. Walker addressed the team Monday, giving them the news about Bradleys father. "Coach Bradley has been good to all of us, and any time a situation like this pops up when youre a family, youre going to feel bad and youre going to have some sensitive feelings," Walker said. "I think our team is a tight-knit family, and Im sure guys are hurting." Roy James Bradley is survived by his wife, Gloria, and six children. ' ' '

Kevin Glenn was the centre of some short-lived controversy on Tuesday, as the CFL quarterbacks Twitter account appeared to take some shots at his current team the Ottawa Redblacks. "I hear you Im trying to get traded they said it will be either Winn Sask or BC they wont trade me to east I heard bell going to cal," his Twitter account @qterback5 read. "Tell nick (Moore) and Keron (Williams) Ottawa some snakes they lied to me." Glenns agent later told TSN that the account had been hacked and Glenn then sent a tweet denying his involvement in the message. "My twitter has been hacked," he wrote. "Ive kept quiet about my situation in Ottawa for weeks now, so why would I post something like that. Everyone knows what type of person I am and this is not something in my character." The 34-year-old was selected by Ottawa in the first round of Decembers CFL expansion draft but his time as face of the franchise was short-lived when the Redblacks signed free agent QB Henry Burris earlier this month. Reports state the Redblacks are currently trying to trade Glenn, and that a few teams, including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, are showing interest. If Jonathan Stewart runs the way he did Sunday night, Newton wont need to. Newton made a successful return following ankle surgery, Stewart ran for two touchdowns and the Panthers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 28-16 in a preseason game. Newton completed 4 of 9 passes for 65 yards and led a pair of touchdown drives before exiting late in the second quarter with Carolina (1-1) up 14-6. Stewart ran for 26 yards on four carries and made a strong case to be the Panthers goal-line back -- if not their primary ball carrier -- with scoring runs of 3 and 2 yards. Newton has been hit more than any quarterback in the NFL over the past three seasons and Rivera has said hed like to reduce the wear and tear on his franchise quarterback. "If we can run the ball effectively with the backs and not have to rely on him running we would much rather do that," Rivera said. And thats fine with Newton. "Im trying to win football games and if that is saying, Cam hand the ball off every play. Cam run the ball down the field 20 yards like a chicken with his head cut off every play. Cam drop back and throw the ball. Cam go get everybody a drink of water. ... Whatever is asked of me, I will do to try to win the football game," Newton said. Newton was rusty early. Carolinas first three possessions netted a yard and no first downs. Newton compounded the problem by overthrowing Kelvin Benjamin on a deep ball after the rookie receiver got behind the secondary. But Stewart replaced DeAngelo Williams and immediately gave the Panthers a boost with a 17-yard carry around left end. The Panthers found their rhythm after that, driving 66 and 50 yards for touchdowns on their next two possessions. "We had a slow start tonight, which is unacceptable," Newton said. "We have to stay on schedule and not waste opportunities like the shot to Benji. Kansas Citys a good football team and we didnt match their intensity early." Kansas Citys Alex Smith finished 14 of 22 for 127 yards. The Chiefs (1-1) moved the ball well early on without star running back Jamaal&nbssp;Charles, but were forced to settle for a pair of field goals -- one of them a 54-yarder by Ryan Succup.dddddddddddd "We did some good things," Smith said. "We moved the ball on a stout defence. We just didnt finish, but self-inflicted things tonight." Kansas Citys search for a reliable No. 2 receiver continues. Dwayne Bowe, who will miss the first game of the regular season because of an NFL-imposed suspension, had five catches for 62 yards but none of the Chiefs other wide receivers stood out. Rookie quarterback Aaron Murrays first NFL pass was for a 43-yard touchdown strike to tight end Travis Kelce, but he later threw an interception leading to a Carolina touchdown. Newton had to shake off some early rust. He missed on five of his first six passes and was sacked for a 13-yard loss, leading to three straight three-and-outs to start the game. Carolina benefited from a 32-yard pass interference penalty on Chiefs cornerback Ron Parker that set up Stewarts first TD -- a run in which the 5-foot-10, 235-pounder bounced off a defender and bowled his way into the end zone. Newton connected on a 24-yard pass to Benjamin over the middle on Carolinas next series leading to Stewarts second score. It was an encouraging return to the field for Stewart, a former first-round draft pick who has missed 17 games the past two seasons with foot and ankle injuries. Stewart has been limited to 516 yards rushing and one touchdown the past two seasons. "Its been a while since Ive touched the end zone," said Stewart, who sat out the first preseason game because of a strained hamstring. The Panthers had a chance to extend their lead before halftime, but Benjamin lost his cool and head-butted Chiefs defensive back Chris Owens. That cost the Panthers 15 yards and took them out of field goal range. NOTES: Chiefs WR Junior Hemingway left the game with a strained hip flexor. Coach Andy Reid said Hemingway he will re-evaluated Monday. ... Rivera wasnt ready to declare Byron Bell his starting left tackle, but said he has played extremely well. ... AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Joe Dumars tried to push the Detroit Pistons back toward the playoffs with a couple of big moves last off-season. That didnt work, and now the Pistons will be hiring someone else to replace him. Detroit has decided not to renew Dumars contract as president of basketball operations, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not made any announcement on Dumars future, says Dumars will remain with the Pistons as an adviser. Dumars was named the 2003 executive of the year, and the Pistons won the title the following season, adding the 2004 crown to the two they won when Dumars was a player. But Detroit hasnt made the playoffs since 2009, and the retooled Pistons flopped badly this season. Detroit has one of the games top young big men in Andre Drummond, but hes one of the franchises few bright spots at the moment. Owner Tom Gores must now hire a new general manager, and in the meantime, ownership executives Phil Norment and Bob Wentworth are expected to supervise preparations for the draft and free agency. Detroit signed Josh Smith and traded for Brandon Jennings last off-season in what seemed like a return to relevance, but the new-look roster lacked cohesion at times. Coach Maurice Cheeks was fired in February, and the Pistons are 29-52 with one game remaining. "I think overall we have a quality team as is," forward Kyle Singler said. "I dont know necessarily the formula to win, but we just werent able to get into a groove earlier on in the year to gain confidence and know that were a playoff team." Dumars began running the Pistons in 2000, and he made one shrewd move after another at first, acquiring Ben Wallace for Grant Hill in a sign-and-trade and sending Jerry Stackhouse to Washington for Richard Hamilton. He brought Rasheed Wallace to Detroit in another trade and signed Chauncey Billups as a free agent. Even a draft day blunder in 2003 — picking Darko Milicic over Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade with the No. 2 pick — seemed like an aberration when the Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals the following year. That title, however, is well in the past. The Pistons have played in front of sparse crowds in recent years, struggling to stay relevant in Detroit while the Tigers have drawn fans in droves to their downtown ballpark. In 2008, Dumars traded Billups in a deal that brought Allen Iverson to the Pistons. That move didnt work out, and neither did the decision to sign Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva to big contracts during the 2009 off-season. Dumars and the Pistons also struggled to find the right coach. When Cheeks was hired before this season, he became Detroits ninth coach since 1999-2000. Immediately before Cheeks, Lawrence Frank and John Kuester lasted two seasons each, with little success. When Gores took over as owner after the 2010-11 season, the Pistons were undeniably in a rebuilding mode. Last off-season, Dumars had another chance to show he could guide the franchise back to contention. Instead, the Pistons have been one of the leagues most disappointing teams in 2013-14. Although Dumars is staying with the organization in some capacity, his departure as team president and general manager marks the end of an era. Drafted by the Pistons in 1985, Dumars spent his entire 14-year playing career with the franchise, winning NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. He was Detroits vice-president of player personnel during the 1999-2000 season before being promoted to president of basketball operations. AP Sports Writer Larry Lage contributed. D.J. Reed Jersey . The UFC will finally venture into Latin America and heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will lead the charge. UFC president Dana White announced at a press conference on Tuesday that Velasquez will return from a shoulder injury to defend his title against Fabricio Werdum at "The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America" finale on Nov. 15 in Mexico City. "Its the no brainer," White said. "This is where all the baddest fighters have come from for years. This is the new martial art people are taking all over the world. Its no secret the best fighters forever have come from Mexico and Latin America. It has always needed to happen." Velasquez, born in Salinas, California to Mexican immigrants, has been sidelined with a torn labrum in his shoulder since his last title defence, a TKO victory over Junior Dos Santos at UFC 166 last October. "Its a great honour for me," the champion said through a translator. "Im ready for this ... and its going to be a dream come true that i get to fight here in Mexico. Velasquez had surgery in December and fully expects to be prepared for the fight that culminates his participation as a coach on the hit reality show opposite Werdum. The show will feature a group of fighters from two weight classes - bantamweight (135 pounds) and featherweight (145 pounds). "Im going to do whatever I can do to fight here in Mexico and Im going to do whatever it takes to give a good fight," Velasquez said. White was quick to dispel any potential jinxes that could come in the form of a training injury or any other physical misfortunes that do occur in a contact sport. "Obviously, I think having Cain here is important. Its a contact sport, anything can happen," White said. "I want to make sure that when we come to Mexico for the first time we bring the best fighters and the best fights." "Hes a young guy, he should be healing up pretty well." On the other had, Werdum wouldnt mind facing a less-than perfect champion. "I dont mind if Cain wants to fight with injury because I would love it," the Brazilian said laughing, also through a translator. As for the other fights on the card. White says its too early to predict anything. "Its so far away. As we get closer well start to build the card," he said. "You know i want to come into Mexico with a bang." "People are going to come from all over the world to see this event. Believe me, its a monumental event," he added. "Weve been talking about it for years and years. People are going to come from all over the world to see this event." CHESTER, Pa. - Abby Wambach has been concerned recently about overthinking headers. She seemed to have it all worked out on Sunday night when she scored four goals — three with her head — in a 6-0 victory over Costa Rica that gave the World Cup-bound U.S. national team their fifth CONCACAF Womens Championship title.Thankfully, today my teammates put me in positions where I really couldnt think, she said afterward. I was set up to be successful. The U.S. women had already secured a trip to next years World Cup in Canada with a victory over Mexico in the semifinals of the eight-team, four-city tournament.Wambach scored on a header in the fourth minute, and fed Carli Lloyd one in the 17th to put the United States up 2-0. It was Lloyds fifth goal of the tournament.Wambach scored with her head again off a cross from Lloyd in the 35th minute and added another header in the 41st, also with the assist from Lloyd. She added her fourth, this time a chip, in the 71st minute. It was her second career four-goal game; she scored five goals in a match against Ireland 10 years ago.I think her focus is crazy good. Shes really locked down and working on every facet of her game, U.S. coach Jill Ellis said, adding with a smile: We did some extra heading with her because she thought her timing was slightly off. I think she did all right tonight.Wambach now has 18 goals in World Cup qualifying, breaking Michelle Akers team record (17). Wambach already has the career record for goals with 177, and she leads the team with 14 goals this year.It was the first time a single player has scored four goals in a CONCACAF womens championship title match. All you can do when Abby Wambach is playing that is pray — pray that the ball doesnt get to her, said Costa Rica coach Avedissian Garabet.Sydney Leroux scored in the 73rd minute for the final margin.Lloyd also scored a pair of goals in the 3-0 semifinal victory over Mexico on Friday night at PPL Park to send the United States to its seventh-straight World Cup. Costa Rica earned its countrys first Womens World Cup appearance by beating Trinidad and Tobago on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in its semifinal match. The top three finishers in the championship for the North, Central American and Caribbean region earned World Cup bids: Mexico secured a berth with a 4-2 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place match earlier on Sunday.Trinidad and Tobago will still have a chance with a two-leg series against Ecuador starting next month. The Trinidad and Tobago team became sentimental favourites of the CONCACAF event when they arrived in Dallas to train two weeks ago with only about $500. Coach Randy Waldrum, who volunteers his services, went to Twitter to plea for help. The response overwhelmed him.It was really emotional for me that first day, just the outpouring. It is hard to put into words, said Waldrum, who is head coach of the NWSLs Houston Dash.Mexico has offered to help Trinidad and Tobago train at altitude for the matches against Ecuador. The U.S. team has been ranked No. 1 in the world for the past five years and was the favourite going into the eight-team CONCACAF tournament. The women swept the group stage to advance to the semifinal against Mexico.Costa Rica, the first Central American team to qualify for the World Cup, had not dropped a match in the qualifying tournament either until the final against the United States. The group stage wasnt without adversity for the United States. Forward Alex Morgan sprained her left ankle during a win over Guatemala and will miss four-to-six weeks. Morgan injured the same ankle last October and was sidelined seven months.Four years ago, the U.S. women were also favoured and expected to have an easy run through qualifying, but Mexico pulled off the upset in the semifinal. The 2-1 loss in Cancun ultimately forced the United States into a two-game playoff against Italy which the team won 2-0 on aggregate. At the World Cup in Germany the next year the United States fell to Japan in the final on penalty kicks.Wambach says shes at about 60 per cent as she prepares to help the team go for its first World Cup title since 1999.It is a process, and in the seven, eight months till the World Cup, I just want to be continually, gradually climbing, hopefully not coming across any setbacks like injury, she said. But the reality is that its a long seven months. Theres a lot of stress and a lot of responsibility and pressure that goes into it. Andrelton Simmons hit his first career grand slam as part of a seven-run first inning, and the Braves held on to beat Colorado 13-10 on Tuesday night. Evan Gattis had a home run among his three hits and Freddie Freeman also homered for the Braves, who had season-highs of 16 hits and 13 runs but had to sweat out a win in the late innings. "Nothing surprises me in this ballpark," Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Ive been in this office in the same situation with a loss hanging over your head." The teams combined for 29 hits and neither starter made it out of the fifth inning. Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio lasted just 3 2-3 innings and Atlantas Mike Minor left after giving up two hits to start the fifth. David Hale (2-0) pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief for the win. "I wasnt making quality pitches early on and later on I felt like I was making better pitches and couldnt get out of a jam," Minor said. "They were scoring all night." The Rockies trailed 13-9 when reliever Jordan Walden walked the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth. One out later Shae Simmons came on and allowed a sacrifice fly by Justin Morneau but then struck out Josh Rutledge to end the threat. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his 18th save in 21 chances. "Kimbrel was great," Gonzalez said. "We score seven in the first inning and we needed a shutdown inning." Nicasio had a scary moment when he deflected a line drive by Justin Upton with his glove in the bottom of the first. Nicasio fractured his neck and sustained a concussion when he was hit in the head by a line drive on Aug. 5, 2011. He missed the rest of his rookie season. "That was scary. You definitely look at his past history and know what happened," shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. "Its something you dont want to see. But Juan is a tough kid. I think hes really over that." The Braves also had a scare when Upton gingerly ran the bases in the first. Gonzalez removed him from the game before Atlanta took the field in the bottom of the inning. Gonzalez and Upton said it wasnt serious and he could play in the next couple of days. "I dont know how its going to feel tomorrow but Im optimistic its not anything too serious," UUpton said.dddddddddddd Wilin Rosario homered and Rutledge had three hits for Colorado, which has lost 10 of 11 and 15 of 18 to fall six games below .500. The Braves jumped on Nicasio right away. Jayson Heyward doubled then B.J. Upton tripled and scored on a groundout. Four straight singles made it 3-0 and loaded the bases for Simmons, who went deep to centre to make it 7-0. "Its a lot of fun, especially being an offensive player and being able to bat around and score a lot of runs," said Chris Johnson, who had his second straight three-hit game. "Everybodys in a good mood because everyone hit and did well." Atlanta sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning, and Colorado nearly matched it in the bottom of the frame. The Rockies scored three times on Rosarios single, Morneaus sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk to DJ LeMahieu Minor walked three batters and hit another and needed 38 pitches to get out of the first with a 7-3 lead. "Me and Gattis, before we walked out we said were going to act like its a 0-0 game," Minor said. "I couldnt throw a curveball for a strike. They eliminated every offspeed pitch and fastballs, I was barely missing the plate." He gave his team an 8-3 lead with an RBI single in the third but then allowed two more runs in the bottom of the inning, including a run-scoring single to Nicasio. It wasnt enough for the right-hander, who left in the fourth after solo homers by Freeman and Gattis, who scored a career-high four runs. Nicasio (5-5) allowed a career-high 10 runs and 11 hits. He has given up at least five runs and nine hits in his last three starts. His ERA has risen from 3.60 to 5.70 in the three outings, all losses. "I didnt worry about that line drive to me. I didnt do my job today," Nicasio said. "I feel bad for my team. They scored 10 runs I need to win this game." Atlanta scored three times off reliever Chad Bettis in the sixth to make it 13-8. NOTES: Gattis extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the first inning. ... Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez had a small tumour removed from his left index finger.
